BONO and the EDGE
Sept 13th & 14th at 8pm $25
In this award-winning, “delightfully absurd” parody of Samuel Beckett’s modern classic Waiting for Godot, the script is flipped: rather than two destitute characters waiting for the arrival of a mysterious “Godot,” in Waiting for Godomino’s, Bono, of rock band U2, orders a pizza delivery to get back in touch with The Common Man in the hopes of conversing with the delivery person about living a “real life.” But Bono’s lifelong U2 bandmate, guitarist The Edge, wants no part of this socio-spiritual experiment and rejects any thought of inviting opinions or judgments on his hard-earned rock star life, but he is also, at the same time, very hungry—in this “stingingly
clever and sharply funny” comedy that skewers the absurdities of fame and fortune, blind faith, and pretentious theater, all while searching for the meaning and purpose of art in a hyper-capitalist society.

Synopsis:
When the students of Lovely Valley Performing Arts Magnet High School's drama department produce an unauthorized teacher-written musical production of Lord of the Flies, all hell breaks loose in Flies! The Musical! The kids, left behind at a “research” retreat in an abandoned forest preserve, gradually turn savage in a couple of unsupervised hours, as the plot points of the novel begin to come true one by one, in song. They are eventually “rescued”; by an astonished park ranger (who happens to also love musicals) but it’s much too late for them to go back to how they were before.
Flies! The Musical! was developed in 2016-2018 in a series of readings and a non-equity production at the Pride Arts Center in Chicago.
Some reviews of that production:
- Can "Lord of the Flies" be turned into a musical? Yes, it can! And "Flies! The Musical!" … is a lot of good, giddy fun. -Chicago Reader
- The best new show in town might well be "Flies! The Musical" -ChicagoOnStage
- Sometimes a show comes along that’s so charming, so honest to goodness lovable that you can’t help but cast aside your cynicism and get swept along for the ride. FLIES! THE MUSICAL!... is such a show. -Performink
O’Connor & Cousineau’s works include 40 is the New 15, which had a critically-acclaimed run at the NoHo Arts Center in Los Angeles, receiving Best New Musical award from Stagescene LA in and a GLAAD Media Award Nomination for Outstanding Los Angeles Theatre. Their musical drama, All That He Was, earned them the Kennedy Center National Playwright's Award and the ACTF Musical Theater Award. O’Connor's music can be heard in Once Upon a Time (ABC), Crash (Starz), Dolphin Tale, and Forgiving the Franklins (Sundance). Cousineau’s writing has been featured in animated series including Yin, Yang, Yo! (Disney), The New Care Bears, and Angela Anaconda. His Songs from My Closet and Songs from My Holiday Closet cabaret productions played this past year to sold-out houses at Revolution Stage Company and will return later this year by popular demand.
